I have a fear of the paranormal? help?

well i cant sleep. And is it true if something living is with u or near u their usually scared cause thats what the old people use to say. I heard stories if u see ghost some ghost its a meaning of bad omen im scared of this. I have faith in god. I have crosses in my room too..Im not taking that out cause its like my prayer altar i have goldfish too and i pray every night.i keep my light on. How do i keep em away just dnt believe in them?and not to show fear?
