Does laying off the strict diet and exercise routine really help to get over a plateau in weight loss?

does laying off the strict diet and exercise routine really help to get over a plateau in weight loss?? like can someone PLEASE TELL ME IF THIS REALLY WORKS FROM THEIR PERSONAL EXPERIENCE!!!! bcuz i've hit a plateau in my weight loss.....and i'm thinking about laying off the diet & exercise for a while, and then starting it up again to trigger my weight loss.....if you say i should lay off for a while, EXACTLY HOW LONG is a while?? should 2 weeks be enough to get my body back to normal so i can "shock" my body again when i resume the dieting & exercise, causing me to lose weight?
