Gilgamesh goes through a transformation from being a greedy dictator with unhappy subjects to finally accepting his fate that he will die one day. Enkidu plays a big role in helping Gilgamesh realize his own mortality. He is heroic in that he turns his life around and becomes a good king for the rest of his life. He is unlike a typical hero in that he has many human flaws. He isn't perfect from the beginning; instead he goes on the 'hero's journey' and learns about greatness.
